Many records fell when they were batting and the Hughes/Agar partnership has reignited the crowd. Taking Australia from 117-9 to 280 all out has tilted the game the visitors way and this afternoon’s cricket will have a lot to live up to in order to be as memorable as the opening session.

Agar Is Gone!
Just two short of his century Agar holes out off Broad to Swann in the deep. Incredible stuff and it all means that Australia have a lead of 65 run. Agar does get to take with him the record of the highest score by a number 11 in test history. A brilliant stand of 163 comes to an end with Hughes at the other end on 81. The drama begins again in 10 minutes where England will look to use the best batting conditions of the test so far.
Anderson Key Man For England
James Anderson was the star early on and he is now the leading wicket-taker at Trent Bridge in Test Matches. His ability to swing the balls both ways had the Aussie batsmen in all sorts of trouble early in the morning before Agar and Hughes got back on top.
No Sign Of Relent From Aussie Last Pair
Five Over Update: Aussies Hanging On
Despite being at No.11, Agar has played with all the power and skill of a middle-order batsmen. The defecit is now just 58 and with this partnership already on 40, Hughes with 35 and Agar 25, who knows what the lunchtime score could be. Australia head into the final 20 minutes of the session with the score on 158-9.
Five Over Update: One More Wicket To Go
After a run of five wickets in 32 balls, England are in firm control just before lunch on the second day. Hughes is unmoved on 26 but he has ran out of partners with just debutant Agar at the other end. With Anderson controlling the ball like only he can, there is not much hope for the Aussies of holding out much longer, never mind until lunch.
Swann Joins Anderson In The Fun
Pattinson goes to chants of “Cheerio, cheerio” after a review that just proved how plumb LBW he was. Ashton Agar comes to the crease to try and stop the onslaught but with Anderson (5-41) and Swann (2-18) on fire, it will be hard to add any more runs without a few scares along the way. The last five wickets have fell inside just 32 balls and Swann has two left-handers at the crease to toy with.
