Before the last ball was bowled, Adam Roberts spoke to a number of fans leaving the ground about their opinion on today’s game. The highlight for everyone was Agar’s innings, but with the game evenly poised, there was something for everyone today.

Cricket Viewed Through A Lens

George Herringshaw has been viewing cricket at Trent Bridge through the lens of his camera since the early 70′s. He started off as an athlete, but an achilies tendon injury prevented him from pursuing a career on the track. He turned his hand to writing sports columns for the local papers, including the Nottingham Evening Post.

When he submitted a photograph with an article, and was paid for it, he realised that sports photography would be a better way to make a living. Since then he has travelled the world covering different sports events.  Last week he was at Wimbledon, next week it is the Open Golf Championship. He still likes coming to Trent Bridge, as it is his ‘local’.

He told Brian Fairchild “I’ve seen a lot of changes here over the years, like ‘Batman’ over there being built”. He points to the match control centre, with it’s two corner spikes.

He explained how the world of sports photography has changed: “Nowdays everything is instant.  Within minutes of me taking a photo it can be published on the web or in print anywhere in the world.”

The next three days at Trent Bridge should provide him with some rich material as the game progresses.

The Happy Tourists

The New Stand is a riot of colour today, a lot of it yellow and green. One particularly vocal group of visitors told Brian Fairchild how much they were enjoying Nottingham.

‘We are having a great day’ they said. “We have shut the Barmy Army up, and Australia definitely have the upper hand today. We think Nottingham is wicked.  It’s even got it’s own Walkabout bar.”

Their next stop is London, but not before they have made their presence felt in the bars of Nottingham.

This is one of West Bridgford’s newest cafe.  It has only been open three weeks, and already it is feeling the Ashes effect.  Owner Helen Dipper explained to Brian Fairchild how the business was benefitting.

“We have been really lucky in having two major events in Nottingham this month.  Armed Forces day was crazy.  We sold out of everything by 2pm! We are hoping for a good match, and for England to do to well, as that would be great for our trade too”.

Helen and her team are offering a £5 lunch bag offer to Ashes fans.

The 60th Birthday treat

It’s Tony Greet’s 60th birthday.  To celebrate, he and his wife Tricia have come to Nottingham from their home in St.Austell. They are staying at the Village Hotel in Chilwell.

Tony said: “I get to see the cricket for four days, Tricia gets to go shopping in Nottingham.”  Tony is looking forward to the match. Tricia is looking forward to visiting Nottingham castle.

Tricia added: “We both like Nottingham as a city, it has a lot to offer, even for someone like me who doesn’t follow cricket.”
