The Ashes Test is less than a week away and if you’re coming to Nottingham to watch the biggest rivalry in cricket then we have plenty of extra things to see and do after the game. All of the events below can be accessed via the dedicated page for Trent Bridge on the Experience Nottinghamshire website.
Post Match Plans
Once the game has finished there’s plenty to see and do in Nottingham. Several local pubs are offering Real Ale Festivals.
The Bell Inn will be offering its William Clarke Beer as part of the 175 Not Out Beer Festival. Alternatively try the Trent Navigation or the Stratford Haven for locally produced ales which are both offering Beer Festivals and only a short stone’s throw from the ground itself.
You’ll also find special activities and a mini Ale and Scrumpy Cider Festival at England’s oldest Inn, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, set at the foot of Nottingham Castle.
Live entertainment comes in a variety of forms too. Winner of Show Me the Funny, Patrick Monahan performs on 10 July at the Canalhouse with top stand up comedy. Live music comes in the form of the Hucknall Fake Festival with tribute acts to the Killers, U2 and the Foo Fighters.
Original music comes from The New Mendicants at the Glee Club on 11 July formed by Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake. At Nottingham University, movie lovers will love to hear the scores from box office greats.
Finally, if it’s theatre you’re after, what better way could there be than seeing Romeo and Juliet in the grounds of Nottingham Castle. This super outdoor theatre production takes place on Saturday and Sunday 13-14 July.
Explore a little more of Notts
If you want to venture further and explore a little more of the region then there’s plenty on offer here too.
Top on our list of recommendations would be a guided tour of the City. Nottingham is full of intrigue and history and our tour guides will amaze you with facts as far ranging as the Vikings to Torvill and Dean. Try the Nottingham Heroes and Villains tour on 11 July or a Robin Hood Town Tour on 13 July.
When England was the Workshop of the World, Nottingham’s Lace Industry was hugely influential. Our Victorian heritage is well worth seeing and we have two events to showcase these for you:
Firstly, Papplewick Pumping Station, which includes a James Watt engine, is in steam on 13-14 July and is a true delight. You’ll also see rare treasures from the Nottingham Industrial Museum at Wollaton Hall on 13 July. This magnificent Elizabethan mansion set in a deer park is well worth a visit.
Finally if you’re looking for something a little different, then Newark Showground is an absolute must for the 2013 Americana International show, Europe’s No.1 Americana event and a massive tribute to the USA.
There’s so much to do! Please keep up to date and follow us on Twitter @ExperienceNotts or via Facebook at LoveNotts.
