It’s been a busy first day for the bar staff of the Radcliffe Stand and the final round is in sight as the final session draws to a close. Thousands of cricket lovers have passed through Trent Bridge’s gates today stopping off for that first pint refreshment before reaching their seats.
Barman, Aeron, aged 20 has experienced thirsty punters before having recently finished a shift at a local 20-20 match and was feeling confident when we spoke to him earlier in the morning.
“It hasn’t taken too long, we just got down here put money in the tills and we’re all sorted ready for the first customer. Hopefully it will be buzzing, we’ll get through a few barrels for sure. We’ve also got about six crates of crisps behind this bar.” he told us.
The drink of choice for many has been a pint of Stella or the IPA and Bar Manager, Patrick Conway admits that today has seen both beverages going down smoothly.
“Of course Stella and Bitter are the most traditional ones, people prefer a little bit of a darker beverage.” he said.
“In the fridge behind me we have 50-60 barrels all stocked up and ready to go. Crisps, Wine, Pimms already to go, we do a jug as well for fans who are interested.”
Despite the high demand, Patrick and his team are happy to pick up the tab in their way of joining in with the festivities after a successful first day on the job.
“One of the best things about Trent Bridge is that everyone is here to have a laugh and everyone enjoys it here. The whole city has a real vibe about it this week.”
